CustomCPU started business on Jan. 1st
1990. In the early days it was just a logical offshoot for
another company, Dan's TV Repair. After all, in the early
days of PC's it was hard to find anybody to work on your
PC, and in order to attract repair customers, it was necessary
to project a different image than that of a TV Repairman.
After a year in business, it became apparent that, in addition
to repairing Computers, it was possible to build Custom Computers
from the various parts normally used to repair them. Thus
came our original name Custom Computers.
Within a few years Custom Computers began to out-perform
it's parent company Dan's TV Repair.
Today, the TV repair portion of the business is still evident.
The primary technician in the TV repair shop is Carl Fleming,
but today, the majority of the work being done is component
level Computer Monitor Repair.
In 1995 Custom Computers had two business locations. The
primary location (which included the TV Repair shop) was
on W. Dimond Blvd. here in Anchorage Alaska. The second,
smaller location was in Downtown Anchorage.
In October 1995, our Dimond store was destroyed by fire.
The smaller store flourished, and with the additional income
generated by it's newest profit center "Internet Access".
It soon paid off lingering debts incurred just after the
fire.
In Feb. 1998, Custom Computers opened a new store in Soldotna
Alaska, and simultaneously changed it's name to CustomCPU.
The new store in response to perceived demand, and the name
change due to a proliferation of Custom Computers named stores
nationwide. Today, we are working toward opening our 3rd
and 4th stores in Alaska. One in Fairbanks, and one in our
capitol city, Juneau.
